Over the past few years, I've been getting back in touch
with crochet--the first needlecraft I ever learned. I'm happy to report that
some of my designs are now making their way onto the pages of crochet
magazines. (The "Bold Mini Boho Throw" from the summer 2018 issue of Crochet! magazine is one of my favorites so far.) To keep my crochet creative juices flossing, I need to have a supply of yarn on hand at all times. But as many of you know, yarn shopping can
become addicting. When I realized that my stash was becoming unmanageable, I
decided it was time to create a yarn filing system. I came up with printable organizer
cards that let me keep yarn samples and vital statistics in a handy binder.
The card's design is nothing fancy, but it does have space
for all the information you might want to keep on file about the yarn in your
stash--name, color, fiber content, weight/yardage, needle/hook size, and yarn
weight (4 for worsted, 6 for super-bulky, etc). I use a separate card for each
yarn company so I can easily find what I'm looking for. (Also, mixing yarn from
different companies is a big no-no in the crochet publishing world.)
If you're ready to get your own yarn stash under control,
click here to download and print the number of cards you need. I left plenty of
room on the left side of the card so you can add binder holes with a three-hole
punch. Use a single hole punch to punch out the circles that are marked on the
right side of each box. Fill in the information that pertains to your yarn and
tie a strand through the corresponding hole.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that this system has changed my crafting life. Now
I just have to remember to add an entry each time a buy new yarn.
