Cross-Stitch Pattern: Lavender Heart

Since Valentine’s Day is just a week away, I thought I’d give you an early present—a free chart for a cross-stitched heart! This delicate design features a geometric arrangement of tiny lavender flowers and leaves. My plan is to finish it as a lavender-filled sachet. As you can see, I already have the dried lavender on hand. I just have to decide if I want to make the sachet square or heart-shaped. I’ll keep you posted.

If you’re a cross-stitcher, you probably have everything you need on hand to complete this project. The floss colors are listed in the key below the chart at the end of this post, but you can easily substitute your own favorite floral shades. As for the fabric, the sample in the photo is stitched on 22-count Aida (or Hardanger) fabric. It’s about 1 7/8 inches square. I’m not going to lie: the squares on 22-count fabric are quite tiny. If you’d like to stitch the design on fabric with a different count, here’s an approximation of the finished sizes: 18-count = 2¼ inches square; 14-count = 2¾ inches square; 11-count = 3½ inches square. Please remember, I said approximate!

Are sachets not your thing? No worries! You can finish your completed cross-stitch any way you like—in a hoop or small frame, as an ornament, or even as a Valentine’s Day card.

The chart and color key are below. Print them out or work right from your screen. If you stitch this design, please share your photos on Instagram and be sure to tag me (@kberlew). Happy stitching--and Happy Valentine's Day!

Use 2 strands of floss over one square of Aida (or over 2 strands of linen or even-weave fabric).
