Crocheted Poppy Purse

Crocheted Poppy Purse
I don't know what kind of winter you've had where you live, but here in Northeastern Pennsylvania, the gloom and cold don't seem to want to end. I may be getting ahead of the seasons with this project, but I'm hoping this bright little poppy purse will hurry spring along. It's easier to make than it looks. The front and back of the purse are simple single crochet circles. The poppy is made separately with red worsted-weight yarn and black embroidery floss. I added a big yellow button for the flower center and finished the purse with a button closure and handle. If you use the yarn I've listed in the materials, your finished purse should measure about 7 inches wide--perfect for toting a cell phone and other small necessities.

For my purse, I used Lion Brand Vanna's Choice yarn in Kelly green and scarlet---plus black DMC embroidery floss for the poppy center. You can use any yarn you have in your stash, keeping in mind that the finished size of purse may vary. For best results, I recommend using the same yarn for the purse and the poppy to achieve the proper proportions.

Since this pattern is too lengthy for a blog post, I've created a printable pattern sheet. Click here to download and print the PDF file. To see more of my printable crochet patterns (cross-stitch and hand-sewing too), click on the Printable Patterns tab above.
